relationship skills check 1.0
Whether you’re single or in a long-term relationship, there are core skills that every relationship requires to thrive.
Where is your skillset these days? Is it sharp?
Here are a few of the basics that we know are key:
Basic communication skills: turn-taking, understanding, and being able to emotionally validate.
Self-regulation skills: taking a break for 20-minutes before coming back to a conversation.
Team Decision-Making: sharing influence easily and mutually on a team with a mission.
What if we helped everyone level up these core skills?
It may come as a surprise to some but we are living through unprecedented times, facing unprecedented challenges. For our relationships to thrive, we have to get back to the basics.
Yet, too few of us have seen the basics in action. Too few of us have enough practice with relationship skills. Too few of us don’t put the effort into relationship change.
The good news is that we know what works in long-term relationships. We’ve got phenomenal clinicians in the field who change lives every day. I’ve met these people and worked beside them.
The challenge is sharing information with as many families as we can reach. That’s our mission at A Better Love Project. We typically share between 5–7 pieces of free content every day on YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, and once weekly on our podcast show: A Better Love with Dr. Greg.
We need more mental health providers and other experts to invest time in their social media outreach.
If you can help level up some core relationship skills, get on social, get on TikTok, share your knowledge and experiences with the world : )
